This coin celebrates James Bond’s association with the Aston Martin DB5. Debuting 60 years ago in 1964’s Goldfinger, the sleek ‘silver birch’ sports car remains synonymous with James Bond.
Heavily modified by Q Branch to help Bond in a deadly mission against international gold smuggler Auric Goldfinger, the car’s exciting features included a tracking device, tyre slashers, smoke screen and oil slick, a bullet-proof rear shield, and two front mounted machine-guns. When threatened inside the car by an adversary Bond dispatched his unwanted passenger using an ejector seat.
Connery’s Bond was again seen driving the thrilling vehicle in 1965’s Thunderball, while it reappeared in later movies GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, Casino Royale, Skyfall, Spectre, and No Time To Die.
Struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.99% pure silver, the coin is issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu.
